OpenCart as an eCommerce Platform in 2023

What is OpenCart? OpenCart is a free open-source eCommerce platform that is distinct from many other in the sense that it's platform independent. Therefore, you can port your store to whichever server suits your needs, and your budget. Another benefit I've found is the modular nature of the software. For example, if you wanted to change the index page, you would go to the OpenCart console, go to the module explore and find index.#.

Payment solutions are a big expense for any store owner. Most platforms are able to get a majority of non tech savvy business owners this way by forcing them to either use their platform or hire a developer. You, however, can simply go to the payment module and upload the gateway of the payment processor you decide to call. If they don't have one, you can program one.

Many other platforms will also charge for extensions on a subscription basis which adds up quickly. It's not unusual for business owners to spend thousands or tens of thousands in unnecessary fees and premiums annually.

However, this means you have to find software that takes care of the intricacies of eCommerce because to program it all yourself would be detrimental in terms of maximizing earning potential. Sales funnels and discounts, for example, would be time-consuming to program as an individual opening their store.

Another thing I noticed is that many big brands use this program for their eCommerce stores. However, for anything larger than medium size, most people recommend enterprise-level software which is more complex and less suitable for individuals.

Finally, I would like to add one last negative. There seems to be some complexity in understanding how the module and box systems work together. Also, it seems it may or may not be on its way out. However, overall, this is a high-end product that is suited for a small business tech-savvy person. I recommend it and am a current user. Please comment with any questions.
